aerial photography
the aerial
gallery
I learned to fly because I love the way the world looks from above: the earth
as an abstract painter's canvas. The pictures in this collection are a mix of commercial aerial
photos and those more abstract images. On occasion, as with the cooling ponds,
the two come together.
The fish-eye shots of the Golden Gate Bridge were taken from a small helicopter
using a rig I built that put the camera below the 'copter skids. The air-to-air
photos of the DC-8 were shot from a Learjet piloted by the legendary Clay Lacy.
Most of the rest were taken from a Cessna 150 that I was flying myself. I
truly hope you enjoy them.
